Venefit™

Venefit™ Vein Closure Procedure
If you’re dealing with varicose veins, you’re not alone—and you’re not stuck with them either. Many people assume these veins are just cosmetic, but they actually can lead to pain, swelling, and more serious issues over time. The Venefit™ procedure offers a safe, minimally invasive treatment option for vein disease that can help you feel more comfortable and confident.
What is the Venefit™ Procedure?
The Venefit™ Closure Procedure—formerly known as the VNUS Closure procedure—is a varicose vein treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to close off diseased veins. This radiofrequency ablation is done using ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy and minimize risk.
During Venefit™, the vein specialist makes a tiny incision in the skin, then uses ultrasound to guide a catheter to the affected vein. Once in place, the RF energy gently heats the vein wall, causing it to collapse. Your body naturally reroutes blood to other healthy veins, and the surrounding tissue eventually absorbs the damaged veins.
This minimally invasive procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes and doesn’t require general anesthesia or stitches in the treatment area. You’ll be walking shortly after and likely back to your normal activities within a day.
Who Can Benefit from the Venefit™ Treatment?
The Venefit™ procedure is often recommended for patients experiencing varicose vein symptoms that go beyond appearance. You may be a good candidate for radiofrequency ablation if you have:
- Leg swelling or a heavy, achy feeling in your legs
- Burning, itching, or throbbing discomfort
- Skin discoloration or texture changes
- Slow-healing wounds or venous ulcers
- Ongoing pain that gets worse with long periods of standing or sitting
For many patients, treating varicose veins with Venefit™ leads to improved circulation, less pain, and better skin appearance.
When Venefit™ Might Not Be the Right Option
While the Venefit™ procedure works well for most patients, there are cases where it might not be suitable. Your vein specialist will assess your situation and may recommend other treatment options if you:
- Have twisted veins that are difficult to catheterize
- Have a blood clot near the treatment area
- Have very short vein segments
- Use a pacemaker or other implantable medical device not cleared for the procedure
In these cases, alternatives such as sclerotherapy, microphlebectomy, laser ablation, or vein stripping may be more appropriate.
What to Expect Before, During, and After the Procedure
Before the Procedure
- You’ll receive instructions on how to prepare, including avoiding strenuous activity
- The treatment area will be cleaned and numbed with a local anesthesia
- You may need to wear compression stockings beforehand as part of conservative management required by insurance
During the Procedure
- A tiny incision is made to access the problematic veins using ultrasound guidance.
- A radiofrequency catheter is inserted and precisely positioned.
- Radiofrequency energy is applied in short bursts to close the affected vein.
- The vein wall collapses and blood is rerouted to healthy veins.
- The treatment area is wrapped in a small bandage—no sutures required.
After the Procedure
- Most patients experience immediate relief with little or no pain.
- You’ll be advised to walk and resume normal activities the same day or next.
- Compression garments may be worn for a few weeks to aid healing
- Avoid heavy lifting, long flights, hot baths, and soaking the area for 1 week.
- A follow-up ultrasound will ensure the vein remains closed and healing is on track.
Why Choose Venefit™ Over Other Treatments?
Compared to other procedures like vein stripping or even EVLT, the Venefit™ treatment:
- Results in less pain and bruising
- Uses consistent and controlled RF energy
- Has a higher long-term success rate—over 90% after 3 years
- Requires less recovery time, so you get back to life sooner
